“Three astronomers who are perplexed when the newest member of their team intercepts radio signals of seemingly impossible origin, only to discover the signals are broadcasting from a spacecraft hiding in low Earth orbit.”
Written and Directed by Elliot Weaver & Zander Weaver
While COSMOS was produced on the modest budget of £5,000 with an unknown, debut cast and filmmaking team, the film successfully sparked a bidding war between distributors for worldwide rights, finally being bought for a 5-figure Minimum Guarantee by leading global indie distributor Gravitas Ventures to put the Producers into profit months before release. COSMOS premiered in West Hollywood in November 2019, attended by members of the cast and crew, and received a limited theatrical release across the US (including LA, NYC and Las Vegas).
COSMOS gained popularity on its streaming release to Amazon Prime where it was available in various countries, including the United States, Canada, and the UK, becoming a breakout hit for Elliot and Zander Weaver. COSMOS raised their profile as filmmakers, bringing their work to a wider audience and securing the brothers Hollywood talent management and representation.
COSMOS continues to grow its cult following on platforms Hulu, AppleTV, Tubi and recently Paramount+. Fans praise the film’s strong plot, performances and impressive effects, calling COSMOS “the epitome of independent film” and “a triumph of talent over budget”. COSMOS currently has a 6/10 IMDb rating off 6,000 user reviews, a Rotten Tomatoes audience score of 70% and was Gravitas Ventures’ most popular science-fiction films of 2020.
